My boyfriend is 51 years older than me; I’m gay, and I think the quote “Love is love” is stupid. It’s too vague and general.
If you’re a teen and you’re dating someone who’s 21, 25, or in their 30’s, chances are that the older person is not in love with you; they’re ephebophiles and creepy. Specifically, I’m invoking the cliche that “they should know better.” Here’s why:
The part of the brain that determines logical reasoning doesn’t begin to develop until one’s late teens and early 20’s (essentially after puberty), and the part of the brain that determines emotional reasoning begins development in one’s early teens (essentially early puberty). This is the cause of a lot of crazy, cliched teen-aged bullshit, and the reason why teens aren’t trusted with the responsibilities of adulthood. Of course, with over seven billion people on the planet, there are bound to be exceptions (e.g. that one person you heard of in a rumor or some such).
If the man or woman is older than you by a lot of years and you are an adult, then I trust in your ability to make your own judgement (I am, after all, in the same boat as you are). However, if the man or woman is older than you by a lot of years and you are still a teen, then I doubt in your ability to make a logical and/or reasoned judgement. What’s worse is that the older person knows you, as a teen, cannot make that call…
